Response prayer based on Luke 5:1-11
This could be used after speaking or reflecting on Luke 5:1-11, the calling of Peter and the miraculous catch of fish.
LEADER: Jesus, we hear your challenge to Peter:
ALL: “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
LEADER: The challenges around us can feel like deep waters,
stormy seas which cause us fear and despair.
We hear Peter’s response of faith to Jesus:
“because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
Help us to respond to you with that obedience,
in our uncertainty give us the strength to trust you.
When Peter sees the huge catch, he has a revelation:
“Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”
Remind us of our own weakness and failures,
give us humility and awe in the face of your glory.
Help us hear Jesus’ encouragement to Peter:
“Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.”
May our repentance turn to joy and our fear to trust,
send us out in your power to live and work for you.
