Holy Spirit Move Among Us (Pentecost Hymn)
A new hymn for Pentecost. This song asks God to revive his church again, to refill and inspire us to words and deeds of faith.
You can download the sheet music to play with your musicians, or use the video. Please report any usage or streaming on your CCLI licence. The track is also up on Spotify and the usual streaming services.
In a more traditional setting, you could sing the verses and omit the refrain. You could also sing it to any hymn tune in 8787D metre (Love Divine, Joyful Joyful, Here is Love...) Vocal by Gemma Scharnowski.
Holy Spirit, move among us,
may your presence fill this place.
Rushing wind and breath of heaven,
breathe upon your church again.
Tongues of fire relight our passion,
kindle us as on that day.
Fan the heat of our commitment,
reignite our hearts, we pray.
As at Pentecost, anoint us,
sons and daughters, young and old,
speak your word through dreams and visions,
give us courage, make us bold.
Help us tell of Christ, the saviour,
perfect human, crucified,
raised from death that could not hold him,
pouring out the Spirit’s life.
Holy Spirit, move among us,
revive your church again,
revive your church again.
God who calls in every language,
free our tongues to speak your word.
May the nations sing your praises,
let your gospel song be heard.
Fill our hearts with true devotion
for your world, your church, your Son.
Fill our souls with awe and wonder,
as we see your Kingdom come.

I was so delighted to receive this new Pentecost hymn, especially because it has been written with the 8787D metre. My minister has had such positive feedback from the congregation when I have chosen fresh words to traditional tunes into our services. Without a choir or singing group to help lead the singing, this is really helpful.
Best wishes in your continuing ministry.
