El Roi (God Sees and Hears) song
This is a simple two-part song, designed to be sung with the congregation split into two groups. There is sheet music so you can lead this for yourself.
The words are rooted in the story of Hagar, who names God El Roi (the God who sees - Gen 16:13). Later the Bible says that God heard Hagar's son's cries (Gen 21:17), hence the Hebrew name El Shama (see also Exodus 2:24). The third name of God used is Emmanuel - God with Us. Together in a few words these paint a picture of a God who sees, hears and draws near to his people.
You could use this song in conjunction with this lament activity, also based on the story of Hagar.
Part 1:
El Roi, El Shama,
Emmanuel, God with us.
Part 2:
The God who sees us, the God who hears us,
Emmanuel, God with us.
