Armour of God - Active Prayer
This is a great active way to help you pray the Ephesians 6 Armour of God. Teach the following actions first (and if you have people who may have mobility issues, explain that they can do whatever movement is appropriate to them):
Truth – put your hand on your waist; Salvation - put your hand on your head;
Righteousness - put your hand on your chest; Peace - put your hand on your feet;
Faith - put your hand on your arm; Holy Spirit – make a fist as if holding a sword
Extract from the prayer:
Lord, thank you that you don’t leave us to struggle along alone,
Thank you for the gifts and tools you give us to live for you:
Truth, salvation, righteousness, peace, faith and the presence of your Holy Spirit,
Today we think of this armour of hope, this armour of faith and compassion:
The belt of truth, the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith and the sword of the presence of your Holy Spirit, which is the word of God.
Your presence and help with us in all we do, everywhere we go.
And so, like someone preparing to go on a rescue mission, we take up these things:
Truth, salvation, righteousness, peace, faith and the presence of your Holy Spirit,
We choose these things, not because they are popular, or will bring us fame, or make us great,
But because Jesus took up these things, and he invites us to follow him, and to walk in his footsteps. It’s not always easy to do that, so we need your help, clothe us with these things:
