Baptism of Jesus - active version
This is a very simple but effective way to read the story of Jesus' baptism, involving rhyming words and actions.
Extract from the script:
When the time came for Jesus to be baptised, he traveled from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptised by his cousin John.
BUT JOHN RESISTS (make pushing back motion with hands - then have everyone repeat line and motion with you).
He simply was not keen on the idea. And he told Jesus so.
"I need to be baptised by YOU," he said. "Not the other way round."
SO JESUS INSISTS (make pulling back motion with hands - then have everyone repeat line and motion with you).
"No," he said. "We need to do it this way. It's one of the good things that God wants me to do."
SO JOHN DESISTS (hold up hands in shrugging, giving-in motion - then have everyone repeat line and motion with you).
And he baptised Jesus.
THEN GOD IS IN THEIR MIDST (flap wings like a dove - then have everyone repeat line and motion with you).
As Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens open up. Then he watched as God's Spirit came down from heaven and landed on him like a dove.
AND EVERYONE IS BLISSED! (Throw hands in air, in a celebratory fashion - then have everyone repeat line and motion with you).
And Jesus heard the voice of God saying, "This is my Son. I love him. And I am so pleased with him!"
