Psalm 51 Confession

Written By:
Sam Hargreaves
Themes: confession
Bible Refs: Psalm 51

This is a mix of parts of Psalm 51 from both the TNIV and the Message.  It is designed to be said out loud together as a corporate confession, but it could also be used as a silent reflection.  You may wish to give people time before hand to silently allow God to search their heart for any particular thing they need to confess.  It ought also to move into something which proclaims forgiveness - an absolution prayer or an appropriate song.

Sam co-leads engageworship.org with his wife Sara. He completed the LST degree in Theology, Music and Worship, and now teaches in the department two days per week. He also co-leads RESOUNDworship.org, the free worship song website, and has led musical and creative worship at events like Spring Harvest, New Wine North and the Baptist Assembly alternative stream. Their book 'How would Jesus lead worship' was published by BRF in 2009.

Great . Used this a few weeks' ago at our morning services . The sermon was on Nehemiah 9 , where the Israelite people spent a quarter of the day in confession & worship ! So it was really appropriate . Thanks , Sam

I'm planning to use this in a session all about Jesus' encounter with Pilate - it looks like it will fit really well, so thanks!

Thank you for this. We are doing the E100 challenge in the Five Saints Team, Bolton at the moment and this will be great as we are covering David and Bathsheba in this week's readings.
