Lord's prayer rewrite
This is a version of the Lord's prayer, rewritten by Rebekah Long from the Bless network (blessnet.eu), and led by her husband Matt at Youthwork the Conference 2010. We like the way it gives fresh insight into that most familliar of prayers, and it works well when you encourage the congregation to say it with enthusiam! Thanks to Rebekah and Matt for letting us share it here! You can download a PowerPoint with this on from the box above if you sign up/log in, or just print/project the words in your own way.
Our Father who dwells in the heavens and on the earth, You are Holy.
May heaven be a greater present reality here on earth,
And may we choose to join you in making that happen.
Provide us today with the things that you think we need,
And may we not take for granted that which you have already provided for us.
Forgive us for when we don't live as you intend,
And may we be ready to forgive others when they don't live as we intend.
Guide us in your wisdom away from the things that would distort us,
And restore the parts in us that are already distorted.
You are goodness, beauty and truth,
May your love rule always.
Amen.

Hi I don't get the 'as we intend' in this line - shouldn't it be as God intends as in the previous line???
Thanks, you're the second person to mention this. I think I see what Rebekah meant - forgive others when they don't live as we expect them to - ? I think perhaps the word is confusing, so do feel free to adapt this as you see fit for your context.
It is beautifully written with great sensitivity and depth of feeling.
I am forever grateful.
