This poem/reading combines the Christmas stories of Zechariah, Mary, Joseph and the shepherds. It is centred around the repeated phrase "Do not be afraid". The illustrations on the PowerPoint are in the Whole Church Worship style.

Teach the congregation the line in bold - "Do not be afraid". You could also make up an action to go with this.

ALL: Do not be afraid,
LEADER: When all around seems dire.
“Do not be afraid,”
the Angel said to Zechariah.
“Your prayers are heard, you’ll have a son,
you’re going to call him John.”
Do not be afraid
today, for God will lead you on.

“Do not be afraid,”
the Angel said to Mary.
“Do not be afraid,
my child, you’re going to have a baby.
He will be great, the Son of God,
his Kingdom will not end.”
Do not be afraid
today, for God will be your friend.

“Do not be afraid”
heard Joseph in his dream.
“Do not be afraid
for things are not the way they seem.
The child she bears is from the Lord,
and Jesus is his name.”
Do not be afraid
today, for God will show the way.

“Do not be afraid!”
The shepherds hear good news.
“Do not be afraid”
they’re told: “the Saviour’s born to you!
You’ll find the Christ in Bethlehem,
a child of humble birth.”
Do not be afraid
today, for God has come to earth.
