This was written for Spring Harvest 2010, based around the themes of Esther chapter 2. We were thinking about the idea that Esther was chosen by the king in that story for all the wrong reasons, but we are chosen by the King of Kings for all the right reasons. It could work in a number of contexts, whether or not you were themed around Esther. You can download the PowerPoint (sign in and right click in the box above) so people can see the words. The text is also part of the liturgy in the new Spring Harvest songbook.
People: We are chosen by the King of kings,
Leader: you are loved with an everlasting love.
People: Not for our looks -
Leader: though he sees you as beautiful,
People: Not for our good works -
Leader: though he cherishes every gift you give back to him.
People: Not because we’re strong -
Leader: because his power is perfect in your weakness.
People: We belong in the family of God,
Leader: you are loved by your heavenly Father. Amen.
