Mind of Christ - Phil 2 paraphrase
This is a paraphrase and riff from Philippians 2:5-11. It expands what it meant for Christ to come as a human and a servant. You could use it as a reflection, or have everyone read it together as a Christ-focused declaration of faith.
Extract from the reading:
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,
the One, the living word, there at the beginning, the source of life and creation.
Though he was God, he didn’t regard equality with God as something to be exploited.
He didn’t grab at power, or hold onto pride, but instead humbled himself, let go and emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness.
Living in a humble community, in a country under oppression, he learnt his father’s trade, sweated and toiled, learnt and grew, laughed and cried, was tested, tried and tempted.
And following this he brought life and light to those living in the shadow of death.
And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross.
That cruel criminal punishment, a slave’s death, after a life of service, hope, compassion and washing feet...
