Balloon Praise

Written By:
Sara Hargreaves
Bible Refs: Psalm 9:1

Print the PDF containing 24 worship phrases from the psalms, and cut them out. Fold the phrases up and stick in balloons, which you inflate (for best result with helium). Attach the balloons to different places in your worship space (creates a great celebration atmosphere as people arrive). In the midst of a time of sung praise, encourage people to pop their balloons and read out their prayers of praise with a loud voice. [Don’t do this activity if it’s likely that you will have babies / small children present who might get scared – their parents won’t thank you!]

Sara co-leads engageworship.org together with husband Sam, drawing from her experience in music, worship and youthwork. She is also a mum of two wonderful children and they all live in groovy Luton.

This sounds like a fun idea and very festive!

One suggestion -- if possible, don't use latex balloons. May people (especially children) are developing dangerous allergies that can be set off by even being in the same room. Lots of balloons are available that aren't made of latex so have fun!

Great Idea! If you don't want to use the balloons use a grab bag filled with all the phrases and pass the bag. As people reach in and take out a Praise they can read it, or better yet sing it. I really like this idea.

Missionary to Jamaica.

BTW this is a great activity of older folks who have a hard time expressing themselves. The written notes give them a bit more courage.

This was an excellent way to encourage the congregation to get involved in worship having a great impact on our worship - young, old, new worships and visitors all willing ready their Psalm. One of our members was thinking on her way to church that morning about their current situation and a verse popped into her head. When she popped her balloon that same verse was written before her eyes. A very powerful act from God. Thank you.

We are holding a dedication service for our new worship centre in a months time and are planning to use this idea based on verses celebrate God building His church through his people (us).
