Advent Praise Shout

Written By:
Andy Stinson
Bible Refs: Psalm 24

This resource is a call to worship, following the vein of the Praise Shout resource.  It looks at the second coming of Jesus, which is traditionally explored during the period of Advent.  It is a liturgical response combining the words of Psalm 24 with the early creedal declaration "Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again!."  The whole thing is accompanied with images hinting towards the second coming and exploring the words of the psalm.

We have used this resource at the start of a service, after some opening songs to focus everyone on the main theme of the service.  The repeated call of 'Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again!' builds momentum through the response and encourages people to join in the cry.  This works well with groups of people who might lack confidence singing, since the repeated phrase encourages people to join in by speaking and shouting.  This would work particularly well in some communion services where the 'Christ has died' response forms part of the liturgy in many traditions.

Andy is training for ordained ministry in the Church of England at Cranmer Hall in Durham. He is enthusiastic about using lots of different media types to draw lots of different people into worship. He writes songs, makes videos, powerpoints and tries to bring new worshippers to appreciate old forms of worship.

Great idea...this is the first time on this site. I am a pastor as well as a worship leader in our church and new ideas are always invigorating! Thanks!
