3 songs for Easter time

AdAM Parkes and his lovely wife Sue - under the artist name Twilight Bark - have recorded three songs for the Holy Week/Easter period.  These aren't so much congregational worship songs as contemporary performance tracks you could play with a PowerPoint or other visuals, or perhaps get some dancers to coreograph something, or use in some other creative way!  Right click and choose 'Save as' to download the mp3s.

'Not my will, but yours' tells the story from Maundy Thursday in the garden, moving on to Good Friday and Jesus' crucifixion.

'All yours made mine' is a sobre, powerful reflection on the significance of the cross for us.

'All things new' is a joyful reflection on Christ's resurrection, with a Mike Skinner-esque rap and even incorperating a version of 'Hark the herald angels sing'!

1. Not my will, but yours

In the garden of Gethsemane
Jesus knelt down to pray
“Father, please take this cup from me”
In great anguish he prayed earnestly
And he sweat great drops like blood
“Father, please take this cup from me”

“Not my will, but yours be done
Not my will, but yours be done”

As they led him to be crucified
Jesus prayed “please forgive,
Father, they know not what they do”
As the soldiers scoffed and criticised
As the people laughed he prayed
“Father, they know not what they do”

“Not my will, but yours be done
Not my will, but yours be done”

Jesus hung between two criminals
On a cruel cross of wood
“Father, my soul is in your hands”
As he breathed his last and died his death
“It is finished!” was his cry
“Father, my soul is in your hands”

“Not my will, but yours be done
Not my will, but yours be done”

2. All yours made mine

Thorns upon your head
Thorns upon your head
Soldiers whip your flesh
Soldiers whip your flesh
Carrying your cross
Carrying your cross
Walking to your death
Walking to your death

All my selfish pride nailed to you
All my foolish words stab through you
All my anger, bitterness
And ugliness made yours
All your love you freely give me
All your grace and mercy free me
All your hope and purity
And righteousness made mine

Darkness fills the sky
Darkness fills the sky
Father turns away
Father turns away
Breathing your last breath
Breathing your last breath
Curtain torn in two
Curtain torn in two

All my shame lay on your shoulders
All my rudeness, greed and coldness
All my guilt, impurity
And dirtiness made yours
All your joy fulfils my being
All your cleansing power so freeing
All your peace and loveliness
And holiness made mine

All your love you freely give me
All your grace and mercy free me
All your hope and purity
And righteousness made mine
All your joy fulfils my being
All your cleansing power so freeing
All your peace and loveliness
And holiness made mine

3. All things new

He is alive
He is alive
He’s making all things new
It’s true
He is alive
He is alive
He’s making all things new

Why do you look for the living
Among the dead?
For he is not here
He is risen
He’s risen

All things created by Jesus
The image of invisible God
He’s over all creation
All things seen and unseen
In heaven and on earth
Kings and governments from every nation
All things made for him
All things made by him
He holds it all together
And he keeps it driving
His church is his body
He’s in charge at the head
He is the beginning
The firstborn from the dead
Jesus, the supreme one
He was filled to the full with God
Like Father, like Son
As he died on the cross
Shed blood, made peace
Jesus sorted out sins
And reconciled all things

What’s to become of the King of glory?
The cross, the grave
Not the end of the story
Cos there’s still plenty
And now he’s sent me
To tell the whole world
That the tomb is empty!
Hope and joy and light and life
Springing up from the ground
In the resurrected Christ
With great celebration and expectation
The old made new in the recreation

Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the risen King
Light and life to all he brings
Risen with healing in his wings
Risen, he ascends to the skies
Risen, that man no more may die
Risen, to raise the sons of earth
Risen, to give them second birth
Hark the heavenly angels sing
Glory to the risen King

The tomb is empty
Behold, I’m making all things new
